Here’s a report from News Channel 34:

It’s time once again to be Greek for a day.

Or 2 or 3 or 4. The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Vestal is starting its 38th annual Grecian Festival Thursday and, as always there will be great food, drink and dancing. This year, the Hellenic Dancers will be joined by the younger Junior Dancers for performances throughout the festival.

Organizer Steve Anastos says festival-goers should not be scared away by the Route 201 construction because shuttle buses will continuously run from the NYSEG parking lot on Old Vestal Road. “It’s like I always say, you don’t have to go to Athens, Greece if you can’t go this year. Especially with the economy the way it is today. You can come here to Vestal. We’ll have Greece right here in this community.”

Of course, the food is always my favorite with traditional dishes like souvlaki, pastitsio, mousaka, spanakopita and gyro. Plus, Sunday only, a special leg of lamb dinner and for dessert, baklava and loukoumades which are better known as honey puffs. Hours are noon to 9:30pm Thursday through Saturday and Sunday noon to 6pm.
